Resting Place of Pharaohs
Born of an ancient civilisation, Cairo is a vast metropolis centred around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over it into Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.
The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artefacts, including finds from Tutankhamun’s tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.
East is Islamic Cairo, home to 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk – remember to haggle. The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.
If you want to step out of cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.
Before heading to your Cairo accommodation, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Turkish coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

The people that live there are so kind and welcoming. The city itself is so noisy and dirty. Most of the city looks like a war zone. The sales people can be completely rude and overwhelming. That being said, the historical side of things is unmatched in the world. The food, fruits and vegetables are amazing. After a week or so, you start to get the rhythm of the city and it sort of grows on you. Craziest drivers I've ever seen, but they somehow survive. Depends on where you are from, Cairo could be a whole another universe, as it was with me. After the innitial shock subsides, you start enjoying it. Quite dirty city, it smells bad most of the time. Driving in Cairo is like a survival but they somehow manage to drive "safe".

To see the best of Giza and Cairo we would definitely...
To see the best of Giza and Cairo we would definitely recommend a local guide and driver. They can navigate the busy road system there, and will know all of the best places to visit and eat. The only thing we would avoid next time is exchanging our money to Egyptian pounds... it is better to either use dollars or euros.

Cairo is a must see place, This hotel layout is nice with cottages, but rooms look old and bathrooms need a complete makeover, worn out look, tap in the tub had a leak. House keeping was not up to the mark as they forgot to place coffee and tea sachets. On requesting, it took 2 hours to reach the room. No mini refrigerator in the room. Needs more power plugs for charging devices. Something needs to be done for the mosquitos there after sunset. I stayed in Jaz group hotel in Cairo and Sharm. Both places need to revise their menu to add more international/asian stuff.RoshinSaudi Arabia

They were really helpful with scheduling things to do and making sure all the guests were taken care of. You really cannot beat this location. Walking distance to many restaurants and the pyramids. You can see the pyramids from the roof. Some of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen. Also the driver the hotel set me up with was the best. He was so sweet and funny. Customs at the airport took forever and he waited for me for an hour with no complaints.
