The Saxon Inn, hotel in Blandford Forum

The Saxon inn is a quaint, tastefully refurbished Inn, with a pleasant garden which is tucked away in a quiet spot in the pretty village of Child Oxford. The inn seemed well frequented by locals who were very friendly. Richard and Sarah - the proprietors - are lovely and were very welcoming (all the staff were great too) - our room was a good size , very comfortable clean and quite new. The food was fabulous, we had a great evening meal and breakfast, authentic coffee- and we were able to park there too - great stay - would thoroughly recommend.

Featuring a hot tub, Copperbeech - Luxury Holiday with Private Hottub is situated in Blandford Forum. With free private parking, the property is 20 km from Monkey World and 25 km from Poole Harbour.

The location was perfect - surrounded by nature, peaceful and serene. There were swings and other activities by the accommodation (life-size chess board, table tennis, etc.). Blandford Forum town centre is needing a bit of TLC like many English towns now. Too many charity shops which is a sad reflection of local council management. Wonderful town walk down to the river Stour though. A few interesting restaurants would be an added attraction for all generations, as well.

Winterborne Houghton which is actually the village we stayed in. Blandford Forum is a 15 minute drive away. Houghton is a very pretty village with lovely gardens and houses. Lots of thatched properties. There is a fish farm which sells delicious fresh trout and Arctic charr. There is a pub which was very nice but we didn’t eat there so I can’t comment on the food. We walked to the pub, about a mile. Very friendly people.

It's a lovely town with a great museum, scenic river walks and nice cafes, restaurants and bars. One thing to be aware of is that public transport is limited at weekends. There are no bus services to Shaftesbury or Salisbury or Yeovil on Saturdays and Sundays.

I am relocating back to Blandford (thru personal choice) so it can’t be too bad ! Few empty shops which is a shame, could do with a bit of upgrading of shops and facilities and I thought a cinema was in the pipeline, but no show yet!

The village of Kingston Zelston is very quiet and pretty, we were lucky enough to see a pair of geese by the river there with goslings. Although I didn't go into the church the outside is well kept looks as if it is well used. We had a fantastic day at Monkey World and also an extremely enjoyable afternoon at Keyneston Mill Botanical Gardens & Bistro. Many other places of interest to visit, but sadly time didn't allow us to fit them in. We will return there in the future.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay and would have been happy to extend it given the opportunity. The room was clean spacious and comfortable and given that they are built around the courtyard it felt as if we had our own patio outside. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming and the food was well presented and delicious. The location in a peaceful country hamlet between Blandford and Wimbourne was perfect for a relaxing break and very dog friendly. An absolute gem.

The Hideaway was in the middle of Blandford Forum, extremely close to all the amenities and ideally located for all the local and surrounding area attractions. The property was very clean and well-presented great for short or longer breaks in the area, the interior being an old building has a few quirks (uneven floors) that add to the stay. Some people stated that the pub/bar across the road was noisy, we found they turned the volume down late evening and wasn't a problem.

This booking was made to facilitate the attendance at a funeral in Poole, while also enabling a visit to friends living in Blandford. The overnight at Saxon Inn worked extremely well after long motoring mileage on Friday and Saturday and I was able to enjoy a very restful night and excellent breakfast, which refreshed me for the 255 mile journey home to Shropshire.
